Why the PFFA is Investing in Mental Health
We understand the immense mental and emotional strain first responders and their families face. The high-stakes, emotionally taxing nature of the job brings unique mental health challenges that require specialized care.
That’s why we’ve partnered with Public Safety Crisis Solutions (PSCS), a mental health provider dedicated to serving first responders and their families.
PSCS offers a personalized, concierge-level approach that goes beyond standard Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs), providing culturally competent care tailored to the real needs of the fire service community. Whether you're experiencing a mental health crisis, need support after a traumatic event, or are looking for preventive care, PSCS is here to support your mental wellness journey with expertise and compassion. With access to crisis intervention, peer support, innovative treatments, and 12 free sessions annually, our goal is to help you prioritize what matters most—your health, your family, and your career—while fostering long-term resilience and wellbeing.
With the specialized support needed to cope with the psychological and emotional aspects of their work, promoting long-term mental well-being and resilience.

Our Partner
Public Safety Crisis Solutions (PSCS)
We’ve partnered with Public Safety Crisis Solutions (PSCS) because of their deep understanding of the mental health needs of firefighters. Founded by Dr. Kerry Ramella, who has spent 35 years working with firefighters, and Brian French, a licensed counselor and active firefighter, PSCS was built with firefighters and their families in mind.
Their approach is holistic and comprehensive, going beyond typical EAP offerings. PSCS offers behavioral health assistance, oversees Peer Support Teams, and conducts training to better equip firefighters with the tools to manage mental health challenges in the line of duty. Whether it’s through counseling, crisis intervention, or cutting-edge treatment options, PSCS ensures that each firefighter receives the support they need in a culturally sensitive and empathetic environment.
Who is Eligible?
The PSCS benefit is available to all plan-enrolled members of the PFFA Healthcare Trust, including:
Employees | Spouses | Children
Each enrolled member, spouse, and child is entitled to 12 free counseling sessions per year. This ensures that every member of your family has access to personalized, high-quality mental wellness care whenever it’s needed, at no additional cost.
